The Art of Presence. A regular practice shifts how you show up in the world.
Mindfulness meditation is the practice of paying attention, on purpose, to what's actually happening in your mind and body, without immediately reacting to it. Rooted in centuries of contemplative tradition and now widely studied in clinical and cognitive research, it builds the capacity to notice a thought, an urge, or a stress response as it arises, and choose your next move instead of being run by it.
In the Jivamukti method, mantra meditation is used to focus and steady the mind. A mantra, traditionally a Sanskrit syllable or phrase, is repeated silently or aloud until it becomes the single point the mind returns to, again and again. The repetition is not about belief. It is about training attention. Each time the mind wanders and comes back to the sound, that return is the practice. Over time, the mantra becomes a kind of anchor, a way to interrupt the mental noise and access a quieter, more concentrated state. This technique draws on classical yogic and Vedantic sources, where sound (mantra, from manas or mind, and tra, or instrument, vehicle) is understood as a tool for shaping consciousness. No prior experience or spiritual framework is required. What matters is consistency: showing up, sitting down, and repeating.
This is not about clearing your mind or achieving a permanent state of calm. It's about changing your relationship to whatever is already there: the deadline, the group chat, the 6 train at rush hour, the argument you're still replaying. Meditation training in NYC often gets marketed as an escape from the pace of the city. Here, it's the opposite: a way to meet that pace with a steadier nervous system and a clearer head.
Many students pair meditation with breath work. If you're new to it, start with pranayama and build from there.
Annamaria teaches within the lineage she trained in through Dharma Moon, Tibet House and Jivamukti; grounded in classical technique and free of spiritual performance.
Meditation is not intended to diagnose or treat medical or psychological conditions and should not be used as a replacement for professional care. If you are dealing with mental health issues or other concerns beyond the scope of meditation, you are encouraged to seek guidance from licensed professionals such as therapists, psychologists, or psychiatrists.
Sessions are one-on-one and built around you.
No incense, no chanting you don't understand, no spiritual bypassing. Just a rigorous, well-trained approach to a mindfulness meditation practice that has held up for a very long time.
"Mindfulness belongs in everyday moments."

Do I need any experience to start?
None. Sessions begin exactly where you are, and the foundational techniques are accessible on day one. If you've tried meditating before and decided you're "bad at it," that's a common starting point too, and usually a misunderstanding of what the practice actually asks.
Isn't meditation about clearing your mind?
No, and that misconception stops a lot of people before they begin. The goal isn't an empty mind or permanent calm; it's changing your relationship to whatever is already there. Each time the mind wanders and you notice and return, that return is the practice.
Do sessions happen online or in person?
Both. Meditation coaching translates cleanly to video, so most sessions are held live over Zoom, wherever you are. In-person sessions are available in New York City. Many people work entirely online and get the full benefit.
How much does meditation coaching in NYC cost?
In-person sessions start at $150; online sessions start at $125. Packages lower the per-session rate, and a limited number of reduced-rate community spots are offered each month for those who need accessible pricing. Full pricing is listed in the sessions above.
Is this religious or spiritual?
The techniques draw on classical contemplative traditions, but the approach is grounded and free of spiritual performance: no incense, no chanting you don't understand, no belief required. Mantra is used as a tool for training attention, not as an article of faith.
How often should I meet or practice?
Consistency matters more than volume. Many people start with a regular session plus a short daily home practice built from what they've learned, then adjust from there. You leave each session with a clear, doable plan rather than a vague suggestion to meditate more.
