"Reiki reopens the chakras and re-balances the flow of the universal life force around the body."

Universal
life energy.

Reiki is a Japanese energy practice developed in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui. The word itself translates roughly as "universal life force," the animating energy that moves through all living things.

The practice works on the principle that when energy flows freely through the body, we experience greater ease, clarity, and resilience. When it stagnates, through stress, grief, trauma, or simply the accumulation of daily life, we feel it: as tension, fatigue, disconnection, or a low-grade sense of being off.

A Reiki practitioner channels this energy through light, intentional touch, or a near-touch, moving over the body's energy centers to encourage flow and support its own capacity to heal. What people often notice is a loosening: tension easing out of the muscles, sleep arriving more readily, the static of stress settling into something quieter, and a sense of releasing what no longer serves. The work is non-invasive, deeply restful, and sits comfortably alongside any other practice you're already engaged in.

Reiki does not diagnose or treat illness. It works beneath the level of symptom, addressing the energetic conditions that underlie them. Sessions with Annamaria are available in New York City and online.

Annamaria Pinna offering a Reiki session

A session
with me.

My Reiki practice is informed by my training as a yoga teacher, pranayama instructor, mindfulness meditation teacher, and Reiki Master, and by twenty years of sitting inside the body's intelligence as a practitioner, beginning in 2005. Sessions feel less like a procedure and more like a conversation your nervous system has been waiting to have.

Here's what to expect:

We begin with a brief check-in: where you are, what you're carrying, what you're hoping to release or cultivate. You remain fully clothed, lying comfortably on a massage table. I work with a light hands-on or near-touch approach through your major energy centers, from crown to root, pausing where I sense blockage, heat, or invitation.

Most clients experience deep relaxation within the first few minutes. Some feel warmth, tingling, or a pulsing sensation. Some see color. Some simply sleep. What arises is specific to you and to that session. Nothing is forced, and nothing is required of you except a willingness to receive.

Sessions close with a brief mindfulness-based integration: a short guided practice to help you return slowly to your body, to the room, to yourself. Drawing on my meditation training in the Tibetan Buddhist-informed lineage of Dharma Moon and Tibet House, this closing creates a container for what just happened, so the session doesn't evaporate the moment you stand up. I may also share observations from the work, patterns I noticed, areas that held particular attention, and offer practices to continue on your own.

A single session is valuable. A series is transformative.

Common
questions.

What does a Reiki session feel like?

Most people feel a deep, almost immediate relaxation, a settling of the nervous system. Sensations vary: some notice warmth or a gentle tingling where I'm working, some see color, some drift into a light sleep. There's nothing you need to do or produce. The only invitation is to receive.

Does distance Reiki really work?

Reiki works with energy rather than physical contact, so it isn't bound by proximity. It can be sent across distance and received wherever you are. Virtual clients report the same warmth, release, and depth of rest as those on the table in person. Online sessions are held live over video so we stay connected throughout.

How much does a Reiki session cost in New York City?

In-person sessions in NYC range from $180 to $230 depending on length; online sessions from $125 to $175. A limited number of reduced-rate community spots are offered each month for those who need accessible pricing. Full pricing is listed in the sessions above.

Is Reiki safe?

Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and deeply restful, and it sits comfortably alongside anything else you're doing for your wellbeing. It isn't a substitute for medical care and doesn't diagnose or treat illness. It works with the body's energy to support its own capacity to settle and restore.

How many sessions will I need?

That's entirely up to you. A single session is genuinely valuable on its own, and many people find a series lets the work deepen and build. Some come once; some return regularly as part of an ongoing practice. If a series feels right, package options are available above.

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?

No. You don't need any particular belief, background, or experience, only a willingness to rest and receive. Reiki isn't a religion and asks nothing of you spiritually. Many first-time clients arrive curious or skeptical and simply notice how they feel afterward.

Where are in-person sessions held?

In-person Reiki sessions are held at a private studio in Manhattan's Financial District, with exact location details confirmed at booking. If you're outside New York City or prefer to receive from home, virtual sessions are available anywhere.

Many clients weave Reiki together with breathwork and meditation as part of a fuller practice. You're welcome to explore pranayama and meditation sessions as well.
